Texada Island is rich in history, from First Nations to Spanish exploration and ore mining. But in the last few years, the island has also become rich in roots and blues music. Impressively, the Texada Roots and Blues Festival musical talent is all locally sourced, drawing on amazing talent from within 100 kms of the shores of Gillies Bay.
The Texada Roots and Blues Festival, held for two days in early August, is fast becoming a “must-do” event for the island communities in the Georgia Strait. It also brings in the mainlanders, too.
More than a dozen performers take to the shady stage at the Gillies Bay Ball Park. Expect to see artists from Texada Island and beyond.

This is two full days of great music. So, bring your lawn chairs, kick back, relax and let those toes tap to the tunes. Stroll through the farmers’ market to pick up some food or fresh veggies to nosh on, and be sure to check out the art.
Texada is known for its arts and crafts scene. There will also be a kids’ zone for the younger crowd and for the adults, there will be a special spot to taste local craft beverages.
