B.C.'s southern Rockies has plenty of reasons to do a little showing off any time of year with its gorgeous natural beauty and laid-back small-towns vibe. As we head into fall and winter, join us for a first-ever online event that will showcase the vibrancy of local businesses and services during the #LiveLocal #EatLocalYXC Festival kicking off this month in the Cranbrook, Ktunaxa and Kimberley region.
You can shop without leaving your seat, eat without stepping into the kitchen and connect with your community in one click. The month-long event is a great way to get to know and support local businesses and check out the vibrant craft and food scene during four Facebook Live events in each area, featuring six to eight businesses in each community.
Welcome to The #LiveLocal #EatLocalYXC Festival . Here is your invitation to join Cranbrook, Ktunaxa and Kimberley locals as we celebrate what is made, produced and is up for sale right here in our backyard.
Launching Thursday, Oct. 22 and running through Nov. 12, 2020, those who shop local across the three communities are invited to “tune in” to a series of Facebook Live events, hosted by Cranbrook, Kimberley and Ktunaxa’s business community. The collection of Facebook Lives include virtual tours and allows viewers to “go behind the scenes” at some of the top regional offerings.
The #LiveLocal #EatLocalYXC Festival also empowers Ktunaxa, Cranbrook and Kimberley’s entrepreneurs, producers and creators with digital media education and promotion allowing them to harness the changing landscape of e-commerce.

On my recent visit, a low blanket of clouds shrouded Cranbrook, but we were warmed up by the mile-wide smile of Aleitha, who with her husband, owns Ella’s Restaurant, one of the best Jamaican eateries in British Columbia. Aleitha and her husband are happy to answer your questions about the special ingredients that go into their Jamaican cuisine during Ella's Live Facebook event.
Their food is guaranteed to spice up your life. Learning all about Jamaican food was a treat, but eating it was pure bliss. Ella’s goes all out with some of the best Jerk Chicken you’ll ever have, along with a delicious side of rice, beans and plantain. Your local Taco Tuesday, has nothing on these mouth-watering treats, seasoned with their homemade secret spices, and fresh vegetables. Turn on the reggae music go big with one of the weekly favourites, Curried Goat that will put your tummy in a happy place.
The region is home to shops like The Choice, which will be part of the #LiveLocal kick-off festivities on Oct 22. Owner Mike Peabody lives for the mountains, and has been featured in the past in this SnowSeekers story, showcasing how his passion for snowboarding across these mountains and how that has translated into a store full of winter awesome.

For those looking for a bit of grounding, join us for a special edition of the #LiveLocal series on Nov. 5, joined by the Kootenay Aboriginal Business Development Agency (KABDA), for their stakeholders' showcase. Ktunaxa, which KABDA serves, is one of North America’s largest Indigenous landscapes whose "earth first” and traditional first connections result in many innovative and interesting businesses.
Local, Hannah Yager, has a unique new counselling service based in Kimberley. In her newly launched business, Converging Currents Counselling, she offers adventure counselling and is going to give you a preview about what that's like at the #LiveLocal #EatLocalYXC Festival .
